Off to Africa!
When my daughter, Elise first told me that there was going to be a teen mission trip to Africa, I told her there was no way she was going that far away.
But then, I thought , this might be a real opportunity for her to do some small good.
And then I learned that the trip was open to anyone who wanted to go. I toyed with the idea for a while, knowing it wasn't really in our budget. But finally I realized that this was something I did have to do.Carpe Diem: I have never regretted doing anything, but I have regretted not doing things. I was off to Africa!
Sometiemes it's hard to remember, especially during times of economic struggle, when our savings are shrinking or we're trying so hard to find a job, just how priviledged we really are.
I struggle to keep it always in mind, and hope that, through this trip, I can even out just a little bit the terrible imbalance between our lives as "haves" and the lives of the real "have nots".
